In  December 2015 the government released a consultation paper that highlighted plans to make changes to the “keeping children safe in education” guidance. The proposed changes can be seen here.

The changes proposed suggested that, alongside the internet filtering schools already use, a means of reporting and potentially monitoring both online and offline activity will also be required. The draft was first published 22nd December 2015 and the original consultation ran until 16th February, feedback was received which the government are now reviewing and analysing ready to release the outcome shortly. 

Here at Turn IT On we are looking into all the solutions available to schools. We are researching and trialling various solutions to find the best to recommend to schools as soon as the finalised changes are published. As the feedback is being reviewed there is a possibility that the changes will not have as strong an impact as first anticipated so we are forming solutions for all potential outcomes.

Our current recommendation to schools is to hold off purchasing any new monitoring and filtering systems until the legislation is finalised to ensure you do not purchase more or less than you require. Using EXA surfprotect in your school is  currently sufficiently meeting your requirements.
